The Asticou Azalea Garden and Thuya Terrace Trail would make for a wonderful day activity for families, garden enthusiasts, and nature photographers. Located at the intersection of Rt. 3 and 198 in NE Harbor the Asticou Azalea Garden is owned by the Land and Garden Preserve and is open to the public for a suggested donation of $5 per person from mid spring to early fall. Once private property owned by the Savage Family, founders of the Asticou Inn, the Asticou Azalea Garden features not just azaleas but many other types of local flora. With many Japanese style influences this Arts and Crafts style garden is masterfully designed to both accentuate and blend in with the natural beauty of MDI.
The Azalea Garden is flat and easy walking but guests with mobility aids might find some areas of the garden difficult to access.
Parking and restrooms are available but please no dogs.

Located a short walk from the Azalea Garden is the Asticou Terrace Trail. This short trail takes you up to the Thuya Garden, a beautiful English style garden also owned by the Land and Garden Preserve. While this is an easy hike compared to others in the area visitors should keep in mind that the Terrace Trail is over 100 terraced stone steps to climb to the top, but also offers picturesque views of NE Harbor. Guests can drive to the garden at the top via the driving entrance on Rt. 3
